Season 2009/10

7/3/10

FC Bloxwich Lions 0 Brewood Juniors 2 (Ron Smith Trophy)

A slow start from Lions allowed division 1 Brewood to play some good football and get two early goals. Lions came out better after half time with a more positive attitude and continued to improve throughout the second half. Unfortunatley for Lions they could not find a way through to pull back Brewoods lead. It was a good team display in the second half and put up a good fight against a strong Brewood team. Defender Josh Tolley was Lions man of the match making some hard solid tackles.

28/2/10

Beechdale Juniors 1 FC Bloxwich Lions 2

Chances went begging for Lions in this local derby. It could have quite easily of been a much higher scoreline. Goals came from Liam Buchanan and Toby Phillips. There was some lovely football played throughtout the team and Tom Wright (jnr) and Craig Yarnalls contribution to this earned them both being named man of the match.

14/2/10

Bloxwich Rangers 5 FC Bloxwich Lions 4

This local derby saw both teams going for the win. Lions took a two goal lead through Liam Buchanan and Tom Wright (snr) only for Rangers to pull back level just before half time. Man of the match Keegan Bissell worked tirelessly in defence to help try and keep Rangers at bay.Twice Lions took the lead in the second half through Craig Yarnall and Jack Clews but Rangers came back an took the lead. Lions kept up the attack with several shots on goal but Rangers keeper somehow pulled off some teriffic saves to seal Rangers win.

FC Bloxwich Lions 2 Wednesfield Athletic 3 (President Cup Semi Final)

Lions good cup run came to end in the semi final but not without putting up an excellent fight. We knew division 1 opponents Wednesfield were going to give us a tough game, however Lions were not phased by them. It was a great team performance with everyone giving it their all. Special mentions for Josh Tolley and Mitch Carter who both had a good game. It was man of the match Liam Buchanan scored a brace to take Lions into the lead. The lead never looked a comfortable one though with the visistors keeping the pressure on. Man of the match Cam Bannister in defence helped to keep them at bay during the first half but during the second half they started a come back. Lions began to tire during the second half and Wednesfield capitalized on that and got the win.

You all played your part in this game lads and did it excellently. It was a great game of football to watch. You should all be very proud of yourselves to reach this far in the cup.

24/01/10

Wyrley lions 1 FC Bloxwich Lions 1

The first game of the new year saw Bloxwich at their best. Bloxwich pressed hard from the off but somehow couldn't find the back of the net. The defence stood strong but just before half time somehow Wyrley got through and scored, against the run of play. Bloxwich came out in the second half and continued with the way they had started. With some great team play, striker, Liam Buchanan finished off and got Bloxwich a well deserved goal. Bloxwich were unlucky not to get all 3 points. Special mentions for Keegan Bissell, Liam Buchanan, Craig Yarnall, Keiron Parker and Will Cooper. However it was an excellent team performance with the whole team being awarded man of the match. A welcome return for Emile Fisher and Will Cooper who have been out for several weeks with injury. Well done everyone.

13/12/09

FC Bloxwich Lions 0 Silverdale Swifts 3

A dissapointing start to the game for Lions allowed Silverdale to capitalize and score three times before half time. Lions had a better second half with man of the match performances going to Keegan Bissell and Craig Yarnall. Lions however could not find the finishing touch of the previous week and with the ref blowing for full time over 5 minutes before he should, it was not to be Lions week.

6/12/09

FC Bloxwich Lions 7 DDC Colts 0

After somehow loosing to bottom of the table early in the season, Bloxwich got the better of DDC this time. A convincing win though the football perhaps not as good as Lions can play. Stand keepers Will Cooper and Pat Parker both pulled off a couple of excellent saves.Toby Phillips got Lions on their way and getting a second later in the game. Liam Buchanans hat trick earned him a well deserved man of the match. Jack Clews's persistance on the left wing finally got him a goal and man of the match. Goal of the day probably went to Craig Yarnall, scoring from outside the box against his old team. Tom Wright (jnr) held the midfield together and was also named man of the match.

29/11/09

FC Bloxwich Lions 2 Wyrley Lions 4

This was a very close game and great to watch. It was expected that Wyrley would dominate the game but it was far from this. Bloxwich stook together and played well as a team. Man of the match Keiron Parker played in a different position to he was use to, having an outstanding game. Toby Phillips struck first for Bloxwich to keep the scoreline close. Star player Pat Parker had an exellent game standing in, in goal, making some terrific saves. Liam Buchanan made several great runs only to get closed down quickly by Wyrley to stop him pulling the trigger. He did manage to get through and get Bloxwich second goal.

Well done lads. Great game.

Brownhills cc White 2 FC Bloxwich LIons 1

Lions were far the better of the two teams throughout the game but did not put their chances away . Keiran Parker put Lions into the lead halfway through the second half. Lions keeper, Emile Fisher had to go off with a serious injury after making a brave save. Brownhills took advantage of the changes while Lions were still settling back into the game and scored twice in quick succession. Jack Clews and Tom Wright both played some great football to earn them man of the match.

15/11/09

Shire Oak Scorpions 2 FC Bloxwich Lions 3 (cup)

A well deserved win for Lions to take them through to the semi finals of the cup. It could quite easily have been a bigger scoreline with the chances that Lions created, especially, in the first half. Lions first goal wasa penalty from man of the match Liam Buchanan who was brought down in the box early on into the game. Shortly after Toby Phillips got a second for Lions taking them 2.0 into the break. Scorpions started better in the second half getting two goals to bring them back into the cup. Lions stuck together well as a team and kept the pressure on for the that winning goal. Man of the match Craig Yarnall played well in midfield attacking and getting back to defend. With ten minutes left it was still equal looking possible that extra time and penalties were to come until Liam Buchanan picked the ball up in his own half, made a terrific run down the wing and fired the winning goal into the back of Scorpions net.

Well done lads. You should be proud of reaching your first semi finals.

8/11/09

Rostance Edwards 7 FC Bloxwich LIons 1

The scoreline does not reflect the performance of Lions. Lions started with a possitive attitude and had most of the play, pressing all the time but could not get the goal. Somehow, Rostance made several breaks, scoring on each attack to take them 5 1 into half time. The second half was a more even game with both teams looking likely to score.Toby Phillips got Lions consolation goal. Josh Dowen and Pat Parker were named man of the match.

25/10/09

DDC Colts 4 FC Bloxwich Lions 1

A dissapointing performance by Lions. Man of matches were Toby Phillips and goal scorer Jack Clews who tried to get the game flowing late in the second half. Lets hope for better next week.

18/10/09 Park Hill Boys 1  FC Bloxwich Lions 8 (League Cup)

A terrific display from Lions despite several changes due to illness and injury. Nathan Elson did a fine job as stand in keeper in the first half and so did Will Cooper who filled in as keeper in the second half. Striker Toby Phillips got Lions on their way with a stunning goal. Liam Buchanan got four goals (including a penalty) to earn him man of the match. Two goals from Kieran Parker and one from Tom Wright(jnr). Defenders Keegan Bissell and Josh Tolley both got man of the match for staying solid in defence.  Well done lads. You are through to the quarter finals of the cup along with six division one teams and one division three team.

FC Bloxwich3 Meadow Park 5 (staffs cup)

Lions knew the visitors of the top Stourport Division were going to be tough opposition but they stayed focused. The visitors scored twice early on but Lions did not let their heads go down and fought back. Man of the match Will Cooper lead from the front and scored Lions first goal and also played in a superb cross for Craig Yarnall to hit the target. Keegan Bissell cleared the ball off the line twice for Lions covering well at the back. Defender Nathan Elson was also Lions man of the match, putting in some hard tackles to keep the visitors at bay. Keiran Parker got Lions third goal with an excellently executed free kick. On any other day with decisions going the right way, Lions would have come away victorious. Well played to all the lads. This was a great game of football to watch and you should all be proud of your performances individually and as a team.

27/09/09 FC Bloxwich Lions 4 Bentley Youth 1

Lions made hardwork of the win. The consistancy of teamwork of the previous weeks seemed to be lacking at times. Will Cooper was brought down in the box midway through the first half and awarded a penalty which was well taken by Liam Buchanan who got his second goal of the game late on. Man of the match Tom Wright (snr) scored a belter. Will Cooper also got on the scoresheet off a rebound off the keeper from a Kieran Parker shot. Jack Clews and Cam Bannister both deserve a mention for their hard work on the left wing. Keeper Emile Fisher was awarded man of the match for once again making some terrific saves and keeping Lions in the game at times.

20/9/09 FC Bloxwich Lions 8 Beechdale Jnrs 1

A convincing win by Lions with a great performance from every player.  Defender, Josh Tolley put in some excellent tackles and stayed solid in earn him man of the match. Striker, Will Cooper played superb getting a hat trick and man of the match. Toby Philips,Liam Buchanan (2), who had a goal wrongly disallowed else would have had a hat trick,Keiran Parker and  Craig Yarnall got the other goals with Craig Yarnall also  awarded man of the match for spreading the play of the ball from midfield.

13/9/09 Brownhills  CC Whites 4 FC Bloxwich Lions 5 (cup)

A slow start by Lions allowed Brownhills to take a two goal lead. Lions soon got back into their stride when Liam Buchanan came on and got Lions back level with two goal before the break. A shot by Craig Yarnall in the second half was stopped by the keeper, only for him to fumble it and lead to an own goal by Brownhills. Buchanan got a  third goal and Keiran Parker sealed the win. Match of the matches went to Tom Wright (jnr) for spreading the play well in midfield and the other going to keeper Emile Fisher for a second week of superb saves.

6/9/09 FC Bloxwich Lions 6 Bush Blades 1

A positive start to new the season from Lions. Lions dominated the game from the off with Craig Yarnall getting the first goal of the season. Striker, Liam Buchanan, got a well deserved man of the match for his hat trick, one goal being a well taken penalty. Keiran Parker also scored on his league debut and was awarded man of the match for his excellent effort in midfield. Lions final goal came from striker, Will Cooper. Bush got a late consolation goal despite man of the match, Cam Bannister being solid in defence.Goalkeeper, Emile Fisher, deserves a mention for pulling off some terrific saves. This was an excellent all round team display.
